Travel Information
Travel to Gothenburg – Sustainable Options
We encourage all conference participants to travel to Gothenburg in a sustainable way whenever possible. The city is well-connected by train and ferry, offering comfortable and climate-friendly alternatives to flying.
By Train
Gothenburg has excellent rail connections within Scandinavia and Europe:
From Stockholm: around 3 hours
From Oslo: around 4 hours
From Copenhagen: around 4 hours (direct connection)
For participants coming from elsewhere in Europe, you can easily travel by train via major hubs such as Hamburg, Berlin, or Amsterdam to Copenhagen, and continue by direct train to Gothenburg.
We recommend using international train booking platforms such as sj.se, bahn.com, or thetrainline.com to plan your journey.
By Ferry
If you prefer to combine your journey by sea, Gothenburg can also be reached by ferry:
Kiel (Germany) – Gothenburg: approximately 14 hours (overnight ferry operated by Stena Line)
Frederikshavn (Denmark) – Gothenburg: approximately 3 hours 15 minutes (Stena Line)
These options are ideal for participants travelling by train or bus to Denmark or northern Germany, and then continuing by ferry directly to Gothenburg.
A Greener Journey
Travelling by train or ferry not only reduces your carbon footprint but also allows you to enjoy the beautiful Scandinavian landscapes on your way to the conference. We highly encourage early booking to secure the best travel options and fares.
We look forward to welcoming you to Gothenburg — a city that is easy to reach, sustainable, and inspiring!
Getting to Gothenburg by plane
Gothenburg is easily accessible from around the world. The city’s international airport, Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT), is located about 25 kilometers east of the city center and offers direct connections to major European cities.
From the airport – sustainable travel options
- Airport bus (Flygbussarna): The most convenient and climate-friendly way to reach the city. Buses depart every 12–20 minutes and run on renewable fuel. The journey takes around 25–30 minutes to Nils Ericson Terminal (Central Station).
- Electric taxi: Several taxi companies operate electric or hybrid vehicles. Ask for a “green taxi” when you book for a more sustainable ride.
Getting around Gothenburg
Gothenburg is a compact and walkable city with an excellent public transport system powered largely by renewable energy.
- Public transport: Trams, buses, and ferries operated by Västtrafik connect all parts of the city. You can easily travel using the Västtrafik To Go mobile app, where you can buy tickets and plan your route.
- Bicycle: The city is bike-friendly, with dedicated lanes and rental services such as Styr & Ställ (public bikes) or hotel bike rentals.
- Electric ferry: For a scenic and sustainable ride, take the Älvsnabbare electric ferry across the Göta River — perfect for reaching Eriksberg from the city center.
How to reach Eriksbergshallen
Eriksbergshallen is located on the north bank of the Göta River in the vibrant Eriksberg district, about 10 minutes from the city center.
From Central Station (Nils Ericson Terminal):
- By ferry: Take ferry line “Älvsnabben” (Line 285) from Stenpiren to Eriksberg — a short and beautiful trip across the river. From the ferry terminal, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to Eriksbergshallen.
- By bus: Bus Line 16 or 58 (direction Eketrägatan) stops near Eriksberg. Get off at “Eriksbergstorget” or “Eriksbergsplatsen.”
- By taxi: A taxi from central Gothenburg takes about 10–15 minutes depending on traffic.
Conference Hotels
All recommended hotels are located within walking distance of the venue:
- Quality Hotel 11 – directly adjacent to Eriksbergshallen.
- Hotel The Pier – 40 minutes’ walk along the waterfront to Eriksbergshallen.
- Hotel Karlatornet – 30 minutes’ walk along the waterfront to Eriksbergshallen.
