Instructions for abstract submission

Deadline for abstract submission: April 17th, 2017  Extended to April 28th, 2017

All abstracts will be reviewed by the local organizing committee.

Accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and in oral poster sessions.

Abstracts must be submitted through the conference website. Regular mail submission will not be accepted. Do not make multiple submissions of the same abstract. Abstracts must be prepared in English. 

A confirmation with the abstract reference code will automatically be sent to the email address given when submitted. 

To review and make changes of your abstract

When your abstract submission is confirmed you will receive login details so that you can make changes of your abstract. It will be possible to make changes until the abstract submission deadline. 

Tables and Illustrations

If you wish you may upload one file with a table or a figure in the abstract submission form. Only one file can be uploaded. A figure legend of maximum 40 words under the figure is allowed but must be included in the figure file. Please ensure that tables, figures and figure legends have sufficient symbol and font size to be legible when reproduced at a width of 8 cm. 


Author notification will be sent out on May 18th, 2017.

When your abstract has been approved you need to register to the conference in order to be able to present your abstract. If you do not register to the conference your abstract submission will be removed from the program. 


Accepted abstracts will be published as an online supplement to Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavia.

Abstract competition

There will be three abstract competitions: the general abstract competition, the in-training abstract competition and the best oral presentation competition. 

All presenting authors can participate in the general competition. One first prize (25 000 SEK) and four second prizes (15 000 SEK) will be awarded. All abstract presenters who are residents at the time of abstract submission can in addition participate in the in-training abstract competition and one prize will be awarded (10 000 SEK). The local organizing committee nominates the five general prize winners and appoints the in-training prize winner. The SSAI Research Committee appoints the general abstract prize winner among the nominees. All six prize winners will be notified at least two weeks in advance, and must attend the SSAI Congress in person and give the oral presentation on Thursday the 7th of September at 13:30-15:00 (8 minutes presentation followed by 5 minutes discussion). Immediately following the presentations the audience will vote for the best oral presentation prize (10 000 SEK).

Note! Instead of using special characters, type the whole word: e.g ”alpha"

1. Each abstract, including references, should not contain no more than 250 words. The figure legend should contain no more than 40 words. 

2. Make the title brief, clearly indicating the nature of the investigation. Do not use capital letters. 

3. Authors: First name and last name. e.g.: John Smith. Start with the presenting author. 

4. Affiliations: Name of the institutional affiliation, city and country (no address).

5. The abstract body should be organized as follows:

  • Background: Purpose of the study, preferably one sentence
  • Materials and methods
  • Results: Summary of the results presented in sufficient detail to supports the conclusions. Results stated in the abstracts must be complete (though concise) and final.
  • Conclusion


All accepted abstracts should be presented as printed posters. The posters must be on display from 9:00 Wednesday the 6th of September throughout the congress. All presenters should be prepared to give a 5 minute oral presentation by their poster followed by 5 minutes discussion during chaired poster sessions in the poster exhibition area.
