Application for an EBSA Bursary for attendance at the 14th EBSA Congress 


Applications are invited from young scientists from the EU area who wish to attend the EBSA Congress 2023. Eligible applicants are PhD students registered in the EU area and Postdoctoral fellows working in the EU area. For the purpose of this application, EU area includes EU member states, EU associated states (including Great Britain), countries of the former Soviet Union, Israel, Egypt and Iran. The base country is the country where the applicant is carrying out his/her research, and/or where he/she is registered for a Ph.D. Previous recipients of EBSA bursaries are eligible for new awards, but not within 24 months of the end of the previous award and not if they have failed to submit a report of the previous visit.

Applications for EBSA bursaries will be made through the Abstract submission interface in this EBSA Congress web site.

The bursary will cover the costs of basic accommodation and registration in the Congress. No travel costs will be supported by this bursary.


Closing date for bursary applications is March 26th, 2023. 

Bursary recipients will be notified latest April 26th.

For the bursary, applicants will need to submit a scientific abstract for poster and/or oral presentation (abstract submission is free of charge). Through the same interface, the applicant will also have to submit a merged PDF, named as “Name_Surname_EBSA2023” and including:

1) A one-page Letter-of-application with personal and scientific motivation for the application

2) A copy of the Meeting Abstract together with a short description of the role of the abstract co-authors (collaborators, supervisor, co-supervisor, PhD colleague etc)

3) A one-page CV, including a statement of previously received EBSA bursaries (if any)

4) Written confirmation of the applicant’s status as PhD student or Postdoctoral fellow (excerpt from PhD student register or Official letter from the applicant’s supervisor/university)

Applications that come in after the closing date will not be considered

The awarding of bursaries will be decided by the Awards Committee, within the financial framework provided by the EBSA Executive Committee.The Awards Committee will have the final say for decisions concerning eligibility, scientific merit of the application and the level of support. The Awards Committee may ask the applicants to provide supplementary clarifications if required. In case of a dispute about procedure, the EBSA Executive Committee will have the final decision.
Recipients of an EBSA Bursary are required to register at the Conference Registration desk on arrival, and to submit a brief report (1 page maximum) describing their achievements and experiences during the visit. he report should be sent to nsantos1@campus.ul.pt within 2 months after the EBSA congress (deadline: October 4, 2023)The report must be received by the EBSA Secretariat within 2 months after the EBSA congress. Please notice that to describe the Bursary Congress experience to future applicants, short, anonymized excerpts from the reports may be presented will become available on EBSA’s website in connection to the EBSA2025 congress.
