Patient involvement in cancer research

The Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan has been instrumental in not only improving research and cancer care, but also to create awareness about the state of cancer care in the European Union.

The Cancer Mission and the Horizon Programme has shown a lot of good examples on projects together with patients, researchers, HCP’s, hospitals etc and has hopefully broaden the way for more collaborations with the building of Cancer Mission Hubs in every European country for better understanding about cancer.

“Nothing about us – without us” has become a common saying among patient advocacy groups when it comes to research or other areas concerning development in healthcare. There is still a need for more knowledge and access for people to engage and learn more about their own condition, and how studies and clinical trials works.

Every patient or close relatives should be asked to be part of something that matters to them and can be of help for the specific condition, possible to pick up when the timing is right.
