In this special focus session on Innovation and Breakthrough we celebrate

Lars Samuelson – Pioneering Nanoscience Visionary

Lars Samuelson is a globally acclaimed physicist and nanoscience trailblazer. After earning his PhD in physics at Lund University in 1977 and a postdoc at IBM Research in California, he returned to Sweden to hold professorships at Chalmers and later Lund University. In 1988, he founded Scandinavia’s first nanoscience center—the Nanometer Structure Consortium—later steering it toward groundbreaking nanowire research.

A true innovator, Samuelson was among the first in the world to integrate materials with diverse structural and electronic properties in nanowires. His prolific research (700+ publications, h-index 90) places him among the top 1% most cited scientists globally.

Now leading the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications in Shenzhen, he’s also the founder of four deep-tech startups and a Fellow of prestigious academies worldwide, including the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the American Physical Society.

We warmly invite everyone with an interest to join us for the session.
